Rawdon Chamber of Commerce La Chambre de commerce de Rawdon
The Rawdon Chamber of Commerce was formed as a non-profit organization.
The members were volunteers, business people of Rawdon.
The aims of the organization were:
- to work for the civic, social, and economic well-being of Rawdon
- to offer adequate services to meet the needs of both merchants and citizens of Rawdon.
- to support the development of the various projects in Rawdon
- in preparation for the future
Founded in June 1934, by Mr. Wenceslas Paradis, its first president, the Rawdon Chamber of Commerce had 35 members.
In 1952 the Chamber of Commerce was a force to be reckoned with.
They were very actively promoting Rawdon not only as a tourist destination, but as a convenient location to locate an industrial or commercial venture.
They advertised a bilingual work force, excellent accommodations, healthy recreation facilities such as golf, swimming, skiing, hunting, fishing.
They boasted of not one but two excellent roads to Montreal, well maintained year round and transport offered by CN or Provincial Transport Co. (bus service). An offer of a free lot was made to any person or company wishing to establish in Rawdon.
Towards the end of August the Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Trade Exhibition in the Legion Hall with businesses from Rawdon and surrounding areas exhibiting their products and services.
Rawdon Cement Works Built a cement silo to demonstrate the latest technology for storing silage on the farm. It was one of two producers of this type of silo in the province.
In 1957, under the presidency of Dr. Yves Cantin, the Chamber of Commerce was still very active, suggesting improvements to the municipal councils and road maintenance to the Minister of Transports.
At the beginning of the 1960’s, the Chamber of Commerce experienced a slowdown that lasted for several years.
In November 1973, a group of businessmen revived the organization.
A year later in1974, the Chamber of Commerce, under the presidency of Mr. John A. Redmond, had 70 members.
The Chamber of Commerce, once again, made a significant contribution to maintaining its financial equilibrium while serving as a tool for the development of the community.
Today the Chamber has upward of a 100 members.

Elle faisait activement la promotion de Rawdon non seulement en tant que destination touristique, mais aussi en tant qu’endroit idéal pour implanter une entreprise industrielle ou commerciale.
Elle fait la promotion d’une main-d’œuvre bilingue, d’un excellent hébergement, d’installations récréatives saines telles que le golf, la natation, le ski, la chasse et la pêche.
Ils se vantaient d’avoir non pas une mais deux excellentes routes vers Montréal, bien entretenues toute l’année, et le transport offert par le CNR ou la Provincial Transport Co. (service d’autobus).
Une offre de lot gratuit est faite à toute personne ou entreprise désirant s’établir à Rawdon.
Vers la fin du mois d’août, la Chambre de commerce a parrainé une exposition commerciale dans la salle de la Légion où des entreprises de Rawdon et des environs ont exposé leurs produits et services.
En 1957, sous la présidence du Dr Yves Cantin, elle était encore très active.

Au début des années 1960, elle connaît un ralentissement qui durera plusieurs années.
En novembre 1973, un groupe d’hommes d’affaires fait renaître l’organisation.
Un an plus tard, en 1974, la Chambre de Commerce, sous la présidence de M. John A. Redmond, compte 70 membres.
La Chambre de Commerce, une fois de plus, a contribué de façon significative à maintenir son équilibre financier tout en servant d’outil de développement de la communauté.
Aujourd’hui, la Chambre compte plus de 100 membres.
