The Royal Bank

In 1912 the Royal Bank opened in this building belonging to Mrs. Ned, (Nellie) Rowan.

This was the first bank in Rawdon.

The lettering in the windows read:

On the Left-  THE ROYAL BANK OF CANADA INCORPORATED 1869

On the right – SAVINGS DEPARTMENT

                 DEPARTMENT D’ÉPARGNES

In 1926 it moved to the newly built city hall building.

In 1973 the bank moved down Queen Street into Bernard’s new multi service and apartment building.

Here the bank was directly across the corner from its original site in Nellie Rowan’s complex.

In 2016 there was still another move, to another new building, at the bottom of the hill on Queen Street.

To date it has remained in place.

En 1912, la Banque Royale a ouvert ses portes dans ce bâtiment appartenant à Mme Ned (Nellie) Rowan.

Ce fut la première banque de Rawdon.

En 1926, la banque déménage dans le nouveau bâtiment de l’hôtel de ville.

En 1973, la banque déménage sur la rue Queen, dans le nouvel immeuble d’appartements et de services Bernard.

La banque se trouve alors juste en face de son emplacement d’origine, dans le complexe de Nellie Rowan.

En 2016, un autre déménagement a eu lieu, dans un autre bâtiment neuf, au bas de la colline sur Queen Street.

À ce jour, la banque est restée en place.
